The Society of Jewish Ethics
2008 Call for Papers
The next meeting of the Society of Jewish Ethics will be held at the Hilton Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia, January 3-6, 2008. Paper proposals dealing with any aspect of Jewish ethics—theoretical or applied, classical or contemporary—are welcome. Papers on issues of social justice and/or peace studies are especially encouraged this year.
As the SJE conference and the Academic Coalition for Jewish Bioethics (http://society.bioethics.net/acjb/) will co-sponsor sessions on Sunday, January 6, the SJE is also interested in papers exploring bioethics for that morning’s sessions.
Proposals should include: tentative title, abstract (400 word maximum), and contact information of the presenter (name, institutional affiliation, phone numbers, and e-mail address).
Proposals should be sent by e-mail to:
Jonathan Crane
Email: hellojkc@hotmail.com
The deadline for submission of proposals is May 1, 2007.
The Society of Jewish Ethics is an academic organization dedicated to the promotion of scholarly work in the field of Jewish ethics, including the relation of Jewish ethics to other traditions of ethics and to social, economic, political and cultural problems. The Society also aims to encourage and improve the teaching of Jewish ethics in colleges, universities and theological schools, to promote an understanding of Jewish ethics within the Jewish community and society as a whole, and to provide a community of discourse and debate for those engaged professionally in Jewish ethics.
All participants in the Annual Meeting of the Society of Jewish Ethics must be members of the Society. For membership forms and other information, please consult the website: http://societyofjewishethics.org/.
The Society of Jewish Ethics annual conference runs concurrently with that of the Society of Christian Ethics (www.scethics.org). Presented papers may be eligible for publication in the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics.
