Emerging Scholar Award
The Emerging Scholar Award of the Society of Jewish Ethics shall be given to a scholar who has received a PhD no more than 10 years earlier and whose scholarship exhibits excellence and promise within the field of Jewish ethics. Published work may include either chapters, articles, or a book. In addition, emerging scholars should be regular attendees at the annual meeting of the Society of Jewish Ethics and beginning to exhibit leadership within the SJE.
Procedural details (approved and amendable by action of the SJE board):

The Emerging Scholar Award will be given out at most every other year. The award will alternate with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

A call for nominations for the award shall be announced at the Annual Meeting, and an email shall be sent to all members of the SJE.Any member may submit a nomination, including the name and a brief description of how the nominee meets the criteria of the award.The deadline for submitting nominations will be around March 15th each year.

In order to be eligible for the award a person should be or should have been a member of the Society of Jewish Ethics for at least two years prior to nomination.

The recipient shall be determined by a selection committee consisting of the Members at Large and the immediate past President of the SJE. The selection committee will submit its chosen recipient to the Executive Committee for approval.

The announcement of the award shall be made at the annual meeting, where the recipient will have a session dedicated to discussing a work-in-progress.

Recipient will receive complimentary registration for the annual meeting. In the future, should funds be available, SJE will also provide funding for transportation and lodging for recipient.

The SJE has created a fund for member donations to help provide financial support for the award.
